Plainsmen Drop 3 on the Road to Howard College
[BORGER – April 3, 2022]
The Plainsmen Baseball team hit the road for a 4-game series in Big Spring, TX against the Howard College Hawks.
Game 1 saw Kelvin Roman take the mound after a quiet top of the 1st from the Plainsmen. Roman gave up a HR early and then a double in the bottom of the 3rd that scored 2. We remained at 3-0 until another solo HR made the score 4-0. Despite the good pitching performance, Roman did not get the run support needed to get the win. The Plainsmen only mustered up 5 hits on the day and only Cory Bonstrom got an extra base hit with a double. The final score ended up being 4-0.
Game 2 saw the Plainsmen come out ready to play some offense, with Cade Zalewski hitting a double that brought home a run. The next batter, Jalen Meyers, was able to bring in Zalewski from second with a single to center. The scoring stopped there as the Hawks scored 2 in the bottom of the 1st. They added another in the bottom of the 4th making the score 3-2. Casey Kelly turned in a good stat line from the bump but again it was just not enough. The bullpen then proceeded to give 8 runs to give Howard a 12-2 victory.
In Game 3, Rijnaldo Euson took the mound looking to pick up the Plainsmen on the road. He went a strong 6 innings and only gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Preston Mills was able to get 2 RBIs on a single in the 3rd to tie game. The game remained tied until Cade Zalewski brought home another run with a double that scored Preston Mills who reached on an error. To close the game out, Corbin Lingo came in ready to shut the Hawks down, Lingo struck out the side in the bottom of the 7th to earn the save and give the Plainsmen the 3-2 victory.
Game 4 was an offensive explosion. The Plainsmen struck for 15 hits and scored 11 times. Even with an early deficit the Plainsmen had the lead in the 7th. The defensive effort which has been great over the weekend seemed to fall apart as the Plainsmen committed 6 errors in the game and gave the Hawks a 4-run lead to end the 7th. The final score in the loss was 15-11.
The Plainsmen will be back in action for a midweek game on the road against Western Oklahoma State College. First pitch for that one is scheduled at 1 PM. Follow along on Gamechanger.
